Blue Spring State Park - St. Johns River / Spring Run
Central Florida & Springs · Volusia County · St. Johns River / Blue Spring Run
A manatee-refuge spring destination where paddlers can launch into the St. Johns River and, outside winter closure season, experience the spring-run environment under strict wildlife-protection rules.
Map position was derived from this record’s sources and is awaiting confirmation against the research directory.
Current state sources verify personal canoe/kayak launch, rentals, mandatory day-use reservations, $6 entry, spring-run seasonal manatee closure and current 2026 reopening. Route distance, SUP suitability and St. Johns difficulty remain unresolved BATCH 2 2026-08-26: the manatee-season closure of the spring run, 15 November to 15 March, is the decisive fact here and is now recorded on the route it removes. The St Johns out-and-back stays open through the closure. Neither route is rated by any source, so both stay unrated.
Why paddle here
- Blue Spring is a high-value PaddlePin planning case because the location is iconic but legal paddling access changes seasonally and entry now requires a reservation.
Launches, parking and access
Where you actually put the boat in, how far you carry it and over what. This is the part official sources are worst at, so it is the part we say most plainly — including where we do not know yet.

The research asks that year-round St. Johns paddling be kept separate from spring-run guidance, and that no single default route be recommended until field-validated DESK RESEARCH 2026-08-26: confirmed as the alternative when the spring run is closed from mid-November to mid-March. Difficulty is not rated by any source and is deliberately left unrated.

Blue Spring run, open season only
Not yet ratedOut and back· Timing mattersPut in at Lower day-use canoe and kayak beach.
The spring run is closed to all water activities from 15 November to 15 March for manatee season, and the closure may start earlier or end later depending on how many manatees are present. Swimming season runs 1 April to 14 November.
Split from the river route on the research’s explicit instruction to separate open-season spring-run guidance from year-round river paddling DESK RESEARCH 2026-08-26: the park closes the entire spring run to swimming, snorkelling, diving, tubing, canoeing, kayaking and paddleboarding from 15 November to 15 March. This route simply does not exist for roughly four months of the year, which is the single most decision-critical fact about paddling here.
