- A 1930s sports writer called the Dora Canal "the most beautiful mile of water in the world", as Lake County's blueway guide recalls: a narrow passage under tall cypress draped with Spanish moss, with wading birds, ospreys and turtles, short enough to paddle out and back in a relaxed morning.

A one-acre City of Tavares park with a boat ramp for kayaks and canoes, parking and public restrooms. Adventure Outdoor Paddle calls it an excellent alternative launch near the entrance to the Dora Canal when Lake Dora is windy.

Adventure Outdoor Paddle launches its guests from a grassy beach on the waterfront in front of its building at 210 E Ruby Street, which it shares with Jones Brothers Seaplane (the building with large murals facing the water). The outfitter says the beach is in a public city park, launching on Lake Dora there is free, and paddlers bringing their own boat are welcome to use it. From here it is about half a mile across Lake Dora to the Dora Canal.
